Nashville Therapy Group

Group therapy for growth and connection.

It’s true what they say about strength in numbers.

While the idea of sharing your personal challenges in a group setting may sound overwhelming to some, group therapy can be remarkably effective and group members are often astonished by how much they enjoy the experience and benefit from the process. In fact, for certain issues, group therapy may be the preferred method of treatment, providing growth and insight beyond what might be accomplished in individual therapy.

Group therapy is also a great resource for learning new skills and finding encouragement in the midst of life’s ongoing struggles. Whether you’re trying out therapy for the first time or meet regularly with an individual therapist you love, group therapy is an ideal opportunity to enrich your life. We offer a variety of support groups led by our experienced team of therapists and interns. Learn more about our current and upcoming groups below.

Surviving the Narcissist

This is a group for adults who want to better understand, manage, engage, or disengage from people in their lives with narcissistic traits and characteristics. We will explore what narcissism can look like and the many forms it can take. We will support each other as we share stories of our experiences with narcissists, with being gaslit, love-bombed, or other forms of emotional abuse. We may discuss other types of personality disorders, including borderline and anti-social personality disorder so that we can better identify and handle individuals in our lives and those entering our future lives who may exhibit these traits.

This group may help you to make the hard decision to separate from, or to stay with, your narcissistic loved one. Either way, this group will provide you the tools and support to move forward toward a better life experience. Our goal is to help you to understand what is best for you, which is sometimes hard to do alone, especially when dealing with someone close to you who has traits of a personality disorder.  Together, we heal and recover.

Schedule: Group sessions are two hours and held in-person at an unpublished time and location.
Requirements: Members must be in individual therapy, and a consultation is required prior to joining.
Cost: $75 per session. Reduced rates are available based on need.

Perfectly Imperfect: A Group for Overcoming Perfectionism

Being a perfectionist has its benefits— you push yourself towards excellence, achieve your goals, and find joy in hard work. But unhelpful perfectionism can just as easily work against you through things like fear of failure, self-doubt, or never feeling good enough. Ultimately, this cycle hinders your path to genuine happiness and contentment.

Using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, this group will focus on what fuels perfectionism and skills to overcome it, without lowering your standards. In a safe and supportive environment, we will connect with each other while learning to embrace imperfection and treat ourselves with kindness and compassion.

Schedule: This is a closed group, and will meet bi-weekly on Thursdays from 5:30-7:00pm starting on September 12th.
Cost: $75 per session. Reduced rates are available based on need.

Group Leader: Alyssa Birmingham, LMFT

Men’s Intimacy Group

No man is an island, despite the "strong silent" image of masculinity depicted in popular culture and modeled by many of our fathers, it's increasingly clear that men who are honest and curious about feelings - i.e. connected - are not weak. In fact, deeper connections and richer intimacy can make men and their relationships, both personal and professional, stronger than ever. Our Men's Intimacy Group offers a safe, confidential environment to process what might be holding you back from connecting with others. The group will also offer expert guidance, camaraderie, skills, and empowerment to build stronger, more lasting relationships in the future.

Schedule: Monthly on Wednesdays from 6pm to 8pm beginning July 17.
Cost: $50 per session. Reduced rates are available based on need.

“Do I Have A Problem?” A Process Group For Potentially Problematic Behaviors

If you’re wondering whether you might have a problem with alcohol, drugs, gaming, pornography, or any other potentially addictive pattern of behavior, then this is the group for you. You can think of this group as a sort of “prehab,” an early way to intervene before a problem gets out of hand, or as a first step towards confirming that you might need a higher level of care.

In a safe and confidential setting, group members will explore how and why they engage in current behaviors, examine the extent to which their behaviors might be problematic, and engage in interventions to implement change if desired. This group also gives members the opportunity to practice communication, socialization, boundary setting, and emotional regulation skills.

Schedule: Every other Thursday from 12pm to 1:30pm.
Cost: $75 per session. Reduced rates are available based on need.
